3 Tips to Ensure Use of the Correct Tense

Tense indicates when the action takes place. To understand English grammar and writing well, it is necessary to distinguish between different tenses and know when to use each.

These 5 tips will help you learn verb tenses for manual proofreading and for mba exams.

  1. Group common irregular verbs together: Irregular verbs do not follow any rules, which makes them so difficult to remember. But some irregular verbs follow a similar pattern.

E.g: Verbs that remain the same in the present, past and past participle.

  • Examples: cost and set.
  • Verbs that are the same in the past forms, but not the present.
  • Examples: breed, bred and shoot, shot.
  1. Learn all new vocabulary with its tense forms: You can make it easier in the future by learning irregular verbs from the beginning. Every time you learn a new verb, you can also learn its tenses as well.
  2. Memorize the 10 most common irregular verbs first.
  3. Learn in sentences: Quite easier to remember the words when they’re part of a sentence. Learn words by putting them into sentences, and you’ll also be learning how to use them correctly. e.g. “I see the bee, I saw the snow, but I’ve never seen a bee in the snow!”
  4.  Learn with songs: Another way is very entertaining,  words more meaning is through using music.

After reading all these tips, the list of irregular verbs doesn’t seem so scary anymore, does it?
